Day 10

Now it is starting to look like a truck!

Day 9

I picked up the truck bed and running boards.  I will need to replace the floor in the bed and trim some metal additions from years gone by.  Running boards are junk but they will have to work for now.  Front subframe is wide so I am playing games with wheels.  Now I know why Will wanted a mustang II under his truck.  Camera is charging,  More pics on the way

Day 8

Christmas day.   I only had time to work on the driveshaft.  I used an adapter u-joint to go from ford driveshaft to GM front and back.  The only reason I did this was the driveshaft was the correct length. I hope it works.

Day 6 and 7 Pictures

Here are the pictures form day 6 and 7.

Day 6 and Day 7

Christmas has really slowed down progress.  On day 6, I went to Central Florida Driveshaft and picked up some u-joints.  You can be sure a man with a greasy apron knows what he is doing.  I also made a drop for the steering out of an old connecting rod.  Christmas shopping for the sweetheart as well.
Day 7  My buddies Wayne and David came over.  We hooked up the steering and set the front fenders after trimming the inner fender wells.  It was loads of fun but we were tired by lunch.
At 3pm the tribe showed up for family Christmas pictures.  They are all spending the night so we can open presents together in the morning.  I love  having all my children and grand children here.
Sorry about pictures.  I will download soon.

Day 5

Today I trimmed some beat up front fender pieces to use on the big truck fenders.  My steering parts came in and I installed the U-joints.  I bled the brakes and put in a seat for a test fit.  Tomorrow I have to go get some rear fenders and running boards.

Day 4

Today I got the front clip ready to go on the truck.  I removed the collar and lower sheet metal.  I will trim the inner fender panels before I set it on the truck.  Power steering is hooked up, but I am waiting for the steering shaft to be delivered.  I vacuumed some of the rat nest and dirt from the cab and got it ready for the seat.

Day 3

Today was a busy day, I even had help from my wife!  I installed the brake pedal, master cylinder and booster.  I also hooked up the brake lines and radiator.  I had to order, a steering u-joint, and double D steering shaft.  Then I marked the inner fender panels, which I will cut for the sub-frame.  Tomorrow I will install the drive shaft.  Overall very productive day!

Day 2

Sorry this post was late.  My #1 fell asleep early and she is the techy one in the family.  Sunday morning before SS, I removed the cab from the 2 ton truck and put it on the pickup chassis.  Didn't get anything done in the afternoon because I was celebrating my birthday with family.  Monday I will start on the brakes and steering.

Day 1

Sammy hooking up the boom.  This is in preparation for tomorrow and the cab removal.  We are behind schedule because, even though it was MY birthday, I had to stop and go by my #1 a new deep freezer.  The things we do for love.

Before

This is the donor cab before we started work.  I hope tomorrow to pull the cab and out in the other chassis. And it is already painted.

Project

I thought it would be fun to take some of my extra parts that may not get used for a while and build a rat rod 1952 Ford pickup.  I teach in a high school so the Christmas break will be a great time to try to do this project.  My good friend Will has left me with a very nice Chassis that came from his 1946 ford pickup. It is subframed and already set up for a small block Chevy.  This should help make the process go faster.  I have a 327 with double hump heads and a powerglide that will be used for the project.  We have an old 1952  F6 that we can harvest the cab and front clip.  It has lots of surface rust.  Saturday morning will be day one with the removal of the cab.  My son and I will hook up a boom to our Ford-5000 tractor and begin the 14 day challenge.  Stay tuned for pictures and daily updates.
